The Recover &
Thrive difference
At Recover and Thrive Psychiatry we strive to create an open and safe space to ensure you feel comfortable, without fear of judgment or preconceptions. Our goal is to provide the highest quality, innovative psychiatric care to enable you to have the best chance of recovering and achieving your desired recovery goals.
We believe that achieving your greatest recovery can only happen by working with you to create a treatment plan that both minimises your negative experiences and maximises the positive aspects of your life.
Assessment
Assessment broadly consists of the gathering of facts about your life and experiences and then coming to a shared understanding about their causes and how they could best be treated. Traditionally much of an initial assessment would be spent gathering facts, leaving little time to do the really important work of making sense of them. We want the time you spend with Dr Henderson to be used to its maximum value so we will gather as much of the necessary information about you and your concerns before you see Dr Henderson. This will be done by you completing a detailed questionnaire which will be emailed to you. Dr Henderson will have read your information before he sees you and be as prepared as possible to best meet your needs right from the start of your consultation with him.
In addition, we believe that aiming to only understand your current illness symptoms is likely to leave you and Dr Henderson with a superficial and partial understanding of your problems, strengths and expectations and will not give you the best chance of achieving as full a recovery as possible. Because of this we provide the opportunity to undergo more extensive assessment of other important areas, including your personality structure and attachment style.
Extended assessments will not be necessary for everyone and will be chosen based on your individual concerns, and with your agreement. They will also be largely done through questionnaires emailed to you between appointments.
Treatment
Creating the best treatment plan together is entirely dependent on having as good an understanding of you, your problems and strengths, and what your goals are for treatment, as well as what your preferences and values are in relation to the types of treatment you would like. At Recover and Thrive Psychiatry we aim to provide treatment that is entirely based on your own recovery goals and that integrates with any care you are receiving from other professionals. With your permission we will communicate and work with all other professionals involved in your care.
Treatment will include providing you with all information you require to be an equal partner in your treatment. It will also be psychologically informed and include advice on modifying appropriate lifestyle factors. In addition, we aim to be at the fore front of medical practice and, as well as all standard treatments, will be able to provide treatment with medicinal cannabis and oral ketamine for a number of conditions that have previously not responded well to other forms of treatment.
Empowerment
Although we aim to provide the highest quality assessments and treatment we recognise that ultimately it is you that has the expertise in your own experiences and will make the vast majority of changes to achieve the wellbeing you desire. On this basis everything we do is aimed at providing you with the knowledge, information, tools, resources, skills and confidence to make the changes you hope for. To do so we will aim to provide you with all the information you need in a format that is best suited to your needs. This includes ensuring you have receive a copy of all letters to your GP, detailing our understanding of your challenges and every aspect of your treatment. We are very happy to hear if you do not agree with anything that is written about you and will always endeavour to correct any misunderstandings. We prefer to do all the information sharing digitally, however paper copies can be provided if that is your preference.
We recognise that you may receive help and support from family, friends or other support people and we welcome them to attend with you. If they are unable to attend, but you feel it is important we contact them, we are happy to do so.
Customer Service
At Recover and Thrive psychiatry we aim to provide the best customer service possible. The mainstay of this is taking the approaches outlined above.
We are always happy to receive feedback on how each consultation with Dr Henderson has gone to ensure you are receiving a service that is best tailored to your needs and expectations. We value all feedback as it is one of the most important ways we can continually improve our practice and assure you it will never adversely affect your treatment. We are happy for it to be in person, by phone or by email and can be confidential if you prefer.
Lastly, if you have already seen Dr Henderson, we will always try to keep urgent appointments available to ensure that you can be seen quickly if something unexpected occurs.
